Introduction
Target Education operates PinPoint, a platform that helps education suppliers and EdTech companies (our “customers”) send relevant marketing to school staff. As part of this, we hold and process information about your role at your school or college.
This notice explains what data we hold about you, why, where it came from, and what rights you have, including how to object or ask for your details to be removed. It is provided to meet our obligations under Article 14 of the UK GDPR, which applies because we did not collect your data directly from you.
Why we process your data
We process a limited amount of professional information about you so that our customers, education suppliers and EdTech companies, can send you marketing that is relevant to your role. Depending on the customer and the segment they have selected, this may include:
- New curriculum resources, books or classroom materials relevant to your subject or key stage
- Professional development, training or events for your role
- EdTech products or services aimed at your school or phase
- Other commercial offers from education suppliers relevant to your work
We rely on legitimate interests as our lawful basis for this processing (rather than consent), on the basis that the data is limited to work-related contact details, the risk of harm to you is low, and you retain a right to object at any time, as set out below. You can ask us for a copy of our full Legitimate Interest Assessment if you would like to see the detailed reasoning.
What data we hold
The personal data we hold about you is limited to your professional details: your name, job role, the school or organisation you work for, and your work email address.
We never hold your personal email address, home address, mobile number, or any special category (sensitive) data such as health information. We do not use your data to build a profile of you as an individual beyond this professional record, and we do not track your activity outside of PinPoint’s own platform.
Where your data comes from
Your details are identified from information made publicly available by your school or organisation, most commonly a staff listing page on the school website. Where a direct email address is not published, we apply common, published email-format conventions for that school to deduce a likely address, and run an automated check to confirm it is valid and live. This verification step does not involve sending you an email or any other message; it is a technical check only.
How your data is used by our customers
Customers access PinPoint to search and message the education professionals relevant to their products, within rules we set to protect your interests:
- Messages must be relevant to your role and not excessive in frequency.
- Every message must include a working unsubscribe link.
- Customers cannot download, copy or export your details from the platform. They can message you through PinPoint, but they do not hold a copy of your data themselves.
- Customers cannot see your email address unless and until you have engaged with a message sent to you (for example, by clicking a link).
Data security and retention
Your data is held on secure, access-controlled infrastructure, with access restricted to those who need it to operate the platform. We periodically review and revalidate the accuracy of the data we hold. If your role or school changes, or if published information about you changes, we aim to reflect this at our next review, or sooner if you let us know directly.
Your rights
You have the following rights over the data we hold about you:
- The right to object to us processing your data for marketing purposes, at any time and without needing to give a reason.
- The right to ask what data we hold about you and where it came from.
- The right to have inaccurate data corrected.
- The right to ask for your data to be erased from our database.
Two ways to opt out
Unsubscribing from a specific customer’s email removes you from that customer’s list only. It does not remove you from PinPoint’s underlying database, so other customers may still be able to message you.
If you want to stop being contacted by any customer through PinPoint, use the contact details below to ask for your details to be removed from our database entirely. We will apply this as a platform-wide suppression so no customer can message you again through PinPoint.
How to contact us
If you would like to object to our processing, ask what data we hold, correct it, or have it erased, please contact our Privacy Contact, Richard Stebbing:
- Email: privacy@target-education.co.uk
- Post: Artichoke Media Ltd, Suites 2 and 4, Global House, Colchester, Essex, CO1 2TJ
We aim to respond to all requests within one month, as required under UK GDPR.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on 0303 123 1113.
